Six ways to customise our engagement ring designs into a ring that is unmistakably yours!
Falling in love with one of our engagement ring designs is only the beginning. Can you customise an existing engagement ring design? Absolutely. Every ring in our Made to Order collection can be customised, so the ring you slip on their finger feels like it was made just for the two of you, because it was. From the colour of the metal to the way the diamond is held, small changes can completely transform the character of a ring, and every piece is handcrafted in our Manchester workshop.
Here are seven ways to make it yours.
1. Choose Your Metal
The metal you choose sets the whole mood of your ring. Every one of our engagement rings can be made in:
- Yellow gold: warm, timeless and romantic, with a classic feel that never goes out of style.
- White gold: bright and modern, letting a white diamond look crisp and icy.
- Rose gold: soft and blush-toned, a gentle choice that flatters every skin tone.
- Platinum: naturally white, dense and incredibly durable, the ultimate forever metal for a ring worn every day.
Wondering whether platinum or white gold is better? White gold has always been a popular alternative to platinum when gold prices were lower. With gold prices now much higher, and platinum being a harder, more durable and naturally white metal, we would always recommend platinum over white gold at present. You can even mix metals, such as a yellow gold band with white claws to make your diamond look whiter and brighter.

2. Wed Fit or Non-Wed Fit
This is one of the most important, and most overlooked, decisions when choosing an engagement ring, because it decides how your wedding band will sit.
- Wed fit: the setting sits higher, leaving space for a straight wedding band to sit flush underneath the stone. Perfect if you love a clean, classic stack.
- Non-wed fit: the setting sits lower and closer to the finger for a sleek, low-profile look that is less likely to catch. It is usually paired with a curved or shaped wedding band.
Not sure which suits you? Our designers will talk you through how each option looks alongside your future wedding ring before anything is made.
3. Pick Your Setting
The setting is how your stone is held, and it changes both the look and the security of your ring. This includes 3 claw, 4 claw, 6 claw, bezel and half bezel settings.

4. Change Your Stone
A white diamond is a beautiful classic, but it is far from your only option. You can choose a coloured diamond, from soft champagne tones to striking blues and pinks, or swap the centre stone for a different gem entirely, such as the deep blue of a sapphire, the rich green of an emerald or the colour-changing magic of alexandrite.
You can also play with the shape of the stone. Oval, round, cushion, emerald, pear and marquise cuts each give the same design a whole new personality. Choosing a stone that means something to you, whether a birthstone or a favourite colour, is one of the most personal touches you can add.

5. Add a Halo or Hidden Halo
If you want your ring to catch the light from across the room, a halo is the answer.
- Halo: a circle of smaller diamonds surrounds the centre stone, making it appear larger and adding dazzling sparkle.
- Hidden halo: a delicate row of diamonds sits just beneath the centre stone, visible from the side. From above your ring looks clean and classic; from every other angle it is a little secret sparkle just for you.

6. Change the Band Width or Profile
The band is the part of your ring you will feel every day, so it is worth getting just right. Whether you love a chunky, statement band with real presence or something fine and delicate that lets your stone take centre stage, we can adjust the width and thickness of the band to suit you.
You can also change the band's profile, the shape it has when you look at it from the side. A rounded court profile is smooth and comfortable, a flat profile feels crisp and modern, and a knife-edge profile rises to a fine ridge that catches the light beautifully. Small as it sounds, the band can completely change how a ring looks and feels on your hand.
Can't see the option you want on a listing?
Not every customisation is available to select online, and that's no problem at all. We often make changes to our designs by hand, so you get exactly the ring you have in mind. Just email us at sales@noahjamesjewellery.com with the design you love and what you'd like to change, and our team will take it from there.
7. Or Go Fully Bespoke
Sometimes the ring you are dreaming of does not exist yet, and that is where our bespoke service comes in. Working one-to-one with our designers, you can create a completely new engagement ring from scratch that feels truly like you. Bring your ideas, sketches, Pinterest boards or even a family heirloom stone, and we will bring it to life before it is handcrafted in Manchester.
